Overview

About This Course

Housekeeping Operations — Public Areas and Room Attendant Services prepares learners for employment as a Room Attendant or Public Area Attendant in a Caribbean hotel, resort, villa or cruise line operation. It combines the technical skills of the role with the professional conduct, safety competence and guest-service standards that international employers expect.

The course is delivered online over four weeks, with a practical skills assessment conducted on the job or in a supervised training session. It assumes no prior hospitality experience.

Who the course is for

  • New entrants to hospitality seeking a recognised certification before applying for hotel or resort work.
  • Serving housekeeping staff who have been trained on the job and need formal certification.
  • Employer-sponsored cohorts, where a property is standardising practice across a department.
  • Candidates preparing for cruise line recruitment, where documented training is normally required.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the role of the housekeeping department within a hotel and its effect on guest satisfaction and revenue.
  2. Demonstrate the professional conduct, presentation and workplace behaviour expected of a hospitality employee.
  3. Communicate courteously and effectively with guests, including across language barriers and with guests who have particular needs.
  4. Apply health and safety, chemical handling, infection control and emergency procedures correctly.
  5. Apply security and key control procedures, and protect guest privacy without exception.
  6. Prepare for work efficiently — shift routines, cart preparation, linen room management and equipment use.
  7. Service a guest room to international hospitality standards, including bed making, bathroom cleaning, turn-down and final inspection.
